Miami, Florida

I've been wanting to go to Miami for a long time so when we decided to go to Cianna's wedding, Albert suggested that we take an extra day and see what all the hubbub was about. As usual, I looked on-line and in books to see what was cool to see in Miami. There wasn't too much besides going to the beach, eating out, and going to clubs.

We like to go to the beach, but not all day. Albert has some vampire-ish tendencies and doesn't like the sun and it makes me physically ill. The last time I laid out on the beach I got 2nd degree burns on the backs of my knees and on my stomach and I had heat exhaustion. Every time I think about laying out it makes me nauseous. We don't really like to swim either so we generally spend no more than an hour at the beach picking up sea shells and walking around, sometimes putting our feet in the water.

I love to dance and wouldn't mind going to a club, but Albert got all clubbed out during college where he was a club promoter and spent every night at clubs. So that leaves us with eating out. As I mentioned in previous posts, May 8th was a huge eating day and we ate a big breakfast on May 9 so my plan to get Cuban food in Little Havana for lunch on May 9 didn't really work out.

I thought maybe there was something to see in Little Havana, but apparently it is not like Chinatown in NYC. So we drove around to see really expensive houses, but they were all hidden behind big gates and long driveways. I'm assuming they are pretty impressive though.  I had heard something about the Design District so we went there but all the stores are closed on Sunday.  So Miami is not a hoppin place on Sunday, just heads up.  We drove around for a long time taking pictures of all the cool looking buildings and the ocean until we could check into our hotel room at 3:00.

Our hotel was the Circa 39.  They are cheap on-line but they try to make up for it with special fees.  There is a $10 mandatory fee for the pool and beach chairs even if you don't use them and it's $17/day to park in their lot.  Luckily we found street parking that's free from 6 PM - 8 AM.  They also have breakfast in the mornings, but it's $10/person. I did like the way that it was decorated. Very cute.  Loved the birds painted on the wall.  It's old but they remodeled it in a very hip way.  They do have strange blue and pink lights in the hall. It's kinda cool at night, but it's super weird in the morning.  Like you are at a club or casino.

Their elevator is funky.  It's old and they painted it red and put a weird red light in there.  It still smells like paint so it makes you really want to get out of there fast.
