In the Red and Brown Water

On Tuesday, February 23 we went to The Studio Theatre to see In the Red and Brown Water -- thanks USO!  It was written by Tarell Alvin McCraney, directed by Serge Seiden, and starred Raushanah Simmons as Oya.

Part of the The Brothers Size trilogy, In the Red and Brown Water is "A steamy coming-of-age in tale the Louisiana Bayou bubbles out of a gumbo of rhythm and sensuality. With In the Red and Brown Water Tarell Alvin McCraney returns to a world driven by intense music, enflamed passions and spiritual Yoruban myth."

I liked it, but missed my happy ending.  The audience was much different than usual.  Instead of a bunch of old white people it was full of young black people so the vibe was much more energetic than most plays we go to.  The acting was good, but the story was so...hopeless.
