Recipe of the Week: Picadillo

On October 25 we made our favorite Filipino dish that no one, including Filipinos, has ever heard of called Picadillo. It's described as a stew, but I think it's more of a soup. We found it in our Filipino cookbook and this is our version:

Ingredients:
  • 1 small onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 lb 96% lean ground beef
  • 4 1/2 cups beef stock
  • 2 medium (431 grams) diced potatoes
  • 1 cup peas & carrots
  • 2 1/2 tbsp fish sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Directions:

Usually we make it on the stove and cook it for 30 minutes, but this time we made in the crockpot and it turned out really well. We browned the hamburger with the garlic and then added all of the ingredients in the crockpot. We cooked it on high for 30 minutes and then turned it on low while we were at church. When we came back 3 hrs later it was perfectly cooked. We serve our s with a little bit of rice.

We give this 4 1/2 stars out of 5 (our standard is Ruth's Chris filet mignon btw so 4 1/2 is pretty good). We have this probably two or three times per month.
