General Conference Weekend

This weekend has been big. Friday we went to The Quality of Life at the Arena Stage Theatre, which was really thought provoking. It was a story of two couples in the midst of tragedy with very different out looks on life. One couple was the liberal, hippy type living in California and the other conservative born-again Christians from Ohio. Their out-looks on the purpose of life and death were on opposite sides of the spectrum, but they came together in their shared humanity. The conservative/religious side of the argument wasn't well represented in the first half, but was redeemed in the second. In the end, I felt like the theme of the play was the sacredness of life. There was quite a bit of swearing so heads up on that.

Saturday and Sunday was General Conference. Twice a year our church has a big conference put on by the leaders in Salt Lake, UT and can be seen via satellite, internet, and cable around the world. We're lucky here in the DC area because we can watch it on tv.

On Saturday just before noon we met up with Laura and Kim&Joe at Blake's apartment for breakfast to watch the first of 4 sessions of Conference.

Here we are preparing the breakfast:

While the guys were at the Priesthood Session of Conference Saturday night us girls went to Cavalia. Albert was nice enough to get 4 free tickets from the USO for us even though he couldn't go. It was pretty cool. Sort of like Cirque du Soleil but not quite as cool and with horses. It was definitely fun to do something different and it was beautiful. The horses were perfectly trained and well groomed with long natural-looking manes and the acrobats/horse trainers looked like the elves on Lord of the Rings.

Sunday it was our turn to play hosts and we had Scott&Courtney and Laura&Blake over for BBQ pulled pork. Albert did a great job making the pulled pork and the food was all great. Kim&Joe came over for the last session for food and afterwards Albert and I smashed them at Settlers.

General Conference was great. I realize that I need to be more charitable and I have more of a desire to do all those little things that will help me to feel the Lord's love in my life.
