Boston (Friday)

We flew into Boston at about 11 AM and took the T (metro) to Rebecca's (my old mission companion) house in Cambridge where we dropped off our stuff and walked to The Elephant Walk a few blocks away for lunch. It is a French-Indonesian place with a gluten-free menu. We weren't super hungry so we split an appetizer and entree.

Albert really liked the elephant on the wall:

While we were waiting for our food Albert took some pictures against the bright orange wall:

Here's Albert waiting for food, sorry no cool orange wall:

Here's our food (I'm hungry right now and these pictures aren't helping). It was quite tasty:

The first dish is Nataing - Ground pork simmered in coconut milk with sliced garlic, crushed peanuts and chili pods; served with crispy jasmine rice for dipping (with special gluten free crispy rice). The entree was Loc Lac - Cubed beef tenderloin sautéed with garlic, sugar and black pepper; served over a bed of shredded lettuce with a lime, garlic and black pepper dipping sauce

After lunch Becca met us at her place and she took us to the Boston Common.

Park Street

It was a beautiful, hot day so we took a spin on the Swan Boat.

While we were going around the pond we saw real live swans sitting on their eggs on a giant nest. When we got off the ride we went to check it out. It was perfect timing because the two swans where doing a "changing of the guard" of sorts. The one swan kicked the other one off very efficiently.

A pretty picture Albert took of the park:

We then went by Becca's alma mater, Harvard, and rubbed old man Harvard's toe for good luck:

There is an old cemetery next to Harvard so I begged Becca to let us go check it out, I can't keep myself out of cemeteries or churches, every time I walk by I want to go in and check it out, maybe I'm subconsciously obsessed with death -- I like to think it comes from my love of history.

This headstone has a skull with wings and is for "a negro servant":

After a yummy and very healthy dinner Becca took us to an old New England favorite, candle pin bowling! The pins are skinny and straight and the balls are uniformly small. It's hard, but very fun. I highly recommend it :D

On our way home from bowling we stopped by a Cambridge favorite, J.P. Licks, for some ice cream...what a great way to end the day!
