Masonic Temple Tower Tour
We went to the George Washington Memorial Masonic Temple in Alexandria, VA on Saturday. It was kinda cool to learn a little bit of the history of the Masons, esp since they were so influential in the history of the United States.
The front of the temple:
On the inside, here's a picture of a statue of George Washington in his Masonic clothing in the foyer area:
We really like this picture of a picture of GW:
I'm not sure what this is, but it's old and pretty:
Here I am checking out some old GW memorabilia:
Another statue of GW on the first floor we visited on our tower tour:
A flag used in the war of 1812 when the British stopped by to check out/destroy the capitol:
A replica of one of GW's Masonic aprons:
The next floor up had paintings covering the walls depicting the construction of Solomon's temple. Here's a picture of the temple destroyed symbolizing our mortality:
The coolest part of the room was the Arc of the Covenant. Don't get excited it was just a replica:
Albert's giving this guy low and high fives for doing such a great job on the temple:
The next floor was decorated by the Templar group so there were cool knight armour:
They had four pretty church-like stained-glass windows with various depictions of Christ. Here's one of Christ healing the blind:
Here's an 800 year-old sword:
We got some good views of the city from the top of the tower:
I like the view of the river in this one:
Here's the Capitol:
Here I am enjoying the view:
PS: I'm so happy it's finally spring!
