Recipe of the Week: Fondu Night

Instead of getting anniversary gifts for each other, we decided to get one gift for the both of us. We went to the Melting Pot last year and enjoy a little fondue now and then, but it's so expensive. So this year we bought ourselves a fondue kit. It came the day after our anniversary so we had two anniversary dinners :) We walked down to Harris Teeter and bought Guyere and Swiss cheeses and pickles.

We used a recipe from A Year of Slow Cooking, which is actually used for a mini crockpot so if you have one of those it works too.

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup each of 3 "fancy" cheeses. We used gruyere, swiss, and mozzerella
  • 1/4 cup cooking white wine
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg

Directions

Shred the hard cheese and put them in the fondue pot. Pour in the white wine and sprinkle the nutmeg on top. No need to stir---it will melt together.  We served with carrots, apples, cherry tomatoes, and pickles (they're really good trust me).

It was delicious.  5 out of 5 stars.  We will definitely be eating this again, but not all the time since it's not exactly low-cal.

We finished off our fattening, very rich meal with chocolately goodness. We used this recipe from the same blog as the cheese, but I added marshmallows and gluten-free graham crackers for s'more fondue. Everytime we go to the Melting Pot I want this, but it's not gluten-free there.

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Optional
  • marshmallows
  • graham crackers

Directions

Put all ingredients in the pot and melt.  We served with strawberries, bananas, and apples.  Yum!

This deserves another 5 out of 5 stars.  So good and fun :)
